What to do if you Fail College in the First Year

College is tough. The transition from high school to college is an overwhelming phase that takes getting used to. Some students get culture shock while some find it really hard to adjust to the new environment and demands of college life. All of these reasons added to pressure can lead to a poor academic performance. A lot of freshmen fail in their first year of college.
Expectations vs. Reality
Most young adults that are about to enter college already formulated their expectations of what their college life would be like. Some are enthusiastic about leaving home and be independent, while others’ expectations fall short because they are not comfortable in the new environment, they are unhappy with the university they chose to enroll in, and they regret taking a course they do not really like.
When reality sinks in, some students find themselves struggling to perform their best in academics that they start failing a test in college until it comes to the point where they are failing first semester of college.
What happens if you fail a subject at uni
There are a lot of things that may happen if you fail a subject. You won’t be able to advance to a more comprehensive course if you fail its prerequisite. You may have to repeat to repeat the course, which means a delay in graduation. It can also affect your financial aid if you have any.
What to do after failing college
So you failed freshman year of college. What do you do next? Although failing college is discouraging, you must not it stop you from achieving your goals. Sure, it may not work out the first time but you can always try again and do better the next time.
It is understandable that you feel disheartened but if you think you are getting signs of depression, do not hesitate to seek out help. Talk with your school guidance counselor and your professors about ways you can solve the problem. They might give you some tips and insights that can help with your situation.
Can you go back to college if you fail out?
Some colleges and university do not accept students who failed out of their university. However, you can still try to submit a form of appeal for readmission. When you write your appeal, be honest and open about the difficulties and struggles you faced that caused you to fail your courses and do not forget to admit your mistakes and take responsibilities for your actions.
You may be called for a meeting after their deliberate if they will give you another chance. If they do, do not blow it. Try harder the next time.
How to not fail college
There is no foolproof way of how to succeed and how to fail. No one can predict circumstances that may happen in the future. Problems may arise but as long as you do your part, there is a greater chance of success. Believe in yourself, do your responsibilities as a student, and everything else will follow. Do not let one failure discourage you from moving forward. Take it from famous people who became successful after failing out in college.
